Masik Shivratri is celebrated every month on the Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha. Masik Shivratri in month of Magha is known as Maha Shivratri which is observed once a year. The devotees observed a strict fast on this day to appease Lord Vishnu. According to the HIndu mythology, it is believed that in the midnight of Shivratri, Lord Shiva was appeared in the form of Linga.
