On the sixth day of Navratri, Maa Durga is worshipped in the form of Goddess Katyayani. This is the second name given for Parvati in amarakosha the Sanskrit lexicon.

She is associated with the forms of Devi Shakti or Durga, a warrior goddess. In Shaktism references like Shakti, Durga, Bhadrakali, and Chandika are also dedicated to her. She is associated with the colour red as with Goddess Durga.

According to the Hindu mythology, Maa Parvati took the form of Katyayani to annihilate the demon Mahishasura. Devi Katyayani is the most violent form of Goddess Parvati.

It is believed that Devi Katyayani was the daughter of Sage Katyayani that's why she came to known as Katyayani.

In the Kalika Puran, it is said that it was Sage Katyayan who first worshipped her, hence she is called Katyayani. It is one of the most important Devi's Pujas and tremendous benefits.

This puja is performed for the purpose of early marriage pf the boy or girl. In many cases, it has been found that the girl or boy marriage is delayed due to many obstacles like Manglik Dosha or due to any other Dosha in the birth horoscope or Kundali.
