Baglamukhi is one of the ten Mahavidyas in Hinduism. The word Bagla is driven from the word Valga which becomes Bagla. Baglamukhi Devi has 108 different names. The Devi is mainly known as Pitambari in North India.
The goddess is associated with the yellow or golden colour. "Bagala" means a bridle or rope that is put in the mouth to control the movement of tongue and "Mukhi" means faced. She is the superpower who can destroy all evils.
Baglamukhi Devi is portrayed as an angry goddess who holds a club in her right hand with which she kills a demon. According to the PeetambariPeeth, Goddess Baglamukhi came to existence when the storms and floods that could have washed out the human existence from Earth needed to be controlled.
It is believed that Devi Baglamukhi has the spiritual power to paralyze an enemy’s speech. Baglamukhi is great to call when there lies and gossips are floating around us. Baglamukhi is also called "Brahmaastra" and Stambhan Devi.
Baglamukhi puja is performed with a specific count of chant or Jaap of Shri Baglamukhi Mantra. It is a very complex puja and should be undertaken under the advice of Pandit or Guru.
